Saint Monica's Ball         City of Lights at Night

Gentlemen's Dress Code

"It is the duty of every man to uphold the dignity of every woman." - Saint Pope John Paul II

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things" (Phil. 4:8)

Gentlemen's Dress Code Information

Young men attending the ball are required to wear dress slacks, dress shoes, button up dress shirt with a tie – suit coat is suggested but not mandatory. A suit/tux may be rented. Gentlemen are expected to keep shirts tucked in the entire evening.

T-shirts with painted on tux are not allowed and will not be allowed into the ball – this is a formal. Dressing for the occasion is a mark of maturity and consideration.

  1. Gentlemen will be considerate of all attending, not just the with the people they know. If someone came alone, introduce yourself…make them feel welcome!
  2. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE! This is a formal event – if you were sitting at the table with the Pope would you pull out your phone and send texts or play games? Certainly not! Please be considerate of the people at your table and keep the phone off and away. The phone will be there in 4 hours, the moment won’t be.
  3. If there is a young lady who has not had the pleasure of a “partner” (slow) dance please consider asking her. This is a traditional rule at a ball: no lady should go home w/out having had the pleasure of at least ONE dance with a partner. This is a beautiful way to think of others first.
  4. Always escort your dance partner to AND from the dance floor by offering your hand or arm to her. If you bring a date it is appropriate to also offer your hand/arm as she walks to and from the car (she is likely wearing heels…she might need a balance check).
  5. FORMAL DANCE POSTURE FOR ALL SLOW DANCES: Gentlemen’s left hand in hers, his right hand lightly on her waist leaving space between them (AKA: room for the Holy Spirit) – this honors the dignity of both and gives your partner the pleasure of your full attention.
*Please go to the Behavior Code tab to read the entire tab with your son before printing off and signing the paperwork necessary to obtain a ticket.
